Thanks to all who joined us for our kickoff Walkshop on Saturday February 25th! Residents gave us a tour of the neighborhood and station area to show us opportunities and challenges in the community. Check out out Flickr site for photos and comments.
“Walkshops” are part of the community visioning process for the SE 17th/Holgate station area. Facilitated by BrightRail staff, the tour-guides are you and your neighbors–people who have an in-depth understanding of the place where they live and work. We’ll be walking the area between McLoughlin Blvd and the Brooklyn Yards–and envisioning the neighborhood’s future, around the SE 17th and Holgate MAX station.
How does a “Walkshop” work? We’ll start by exploring the neighborhood, taking pictures of things we like and things we don’t like, uses and neighborhood characteristics to preserve, and those we want to see changed. After taking photos, we’ll regroup to talk about what we found, discuss the existing conditions of the area and opportunities for neighborhood change, and envision the improvements that the new Portland-Milwaukie light rail station, can, and should bring. It’s a chance to look at your surroundings with fresh and critical eyes, as we begin contemplating a vision for the future. We want YOU to take part, whether you live around SE 17th and Holgate, someplace nearby, or if you’re just interested in the future of the community.
